I personally love Alexandrite.app as a UX. I’m so used to it that I get confused when I follow a link and see a default Lemmy instance, lol.

My laptop has a 3050 in it running Garuda Linux under Wayland and its been working well without any fuss. I tried bazzite but the drivers put me on the struggle bus… It never would leave “hybrid mode” and trying to play a game just wouldn’t touch the dgpu so performance would be igpu trash mode.

I’d love to know what is different between garuda and bazzite to try to get bazzite to work as I did really like it, but it eluded me. I guess my point is that you might have better luck trying a different distro unfortunately. It feels like there are enough variables that what works for me may not for you and vice versa.

Those people that don’t know options exist are also people that don’t care about or know about support life for something like the OS - they just see it as what the computer comes with. Most of them probably wouldn’t have upgraded from 7 to 10 without it just doing it itself. A lot of them will just keep using 10 well past the end of support.

Also, I really enjoyed Railcar’s subversion of expectations with all that lead up to what we all assumed was a Linux recommendation to end up being pirated windows. That got a chuckle out of me. I feel like the haters didn’t get the joke.

The reason end of support keeps getting brought up is because the only remaining supported version is currently in a trash state and officially doesn’t support a LOT of hardware still in use.

Windows 7 was still supported for 5 years after 10 came out. Windows 8 didn’t go end of support until last year, 8 years after 10 launched. And keeping in mind that you could have upgraded a machine originally on xp to windows 10, it is hard to not feel like they are doing the entire industry dirty killing support just 4 years after the new os launched, while they are still bogging it down with newer and shittier features like its in beta or something.

Except we made an exception for citizens that reside in Washington DC. They have no representative in the senate, but were given 3 electoral college votes for president and vice president.

So we totally can (and have) extended the right to vote to citizens living outside one of the 50 states to vote, we just won’t for Puerto Rico. :(

State or not I think its pretty ridiculous that they are american citizens but can’t vote for president of the united states… People living in DC get to vote and aren’t living in a state.

I fucking love running updates on garuda. Watching the little ASCII pacmans gobbling up the progress bar… And it doesn’t do it unless I tell it to so I never have the windows experience of “I just wanna play a game,oh look, 10 minutes of updates instead. Guess I’ll go make a sandwich…”

I want one but the price has kept me away… But its about to be time. I’m not one to upgrade often, I’m still on a galaxy s9 plus, which I love, but the battery is showing its age and the screen has some minor burn in after like I think 6 years of constant use.
