  • Native Rhode Islander here.

Food trucks are a staple of life. They are a quintessential part of RI culture. We have events at Roger Williams Park like every week in the summer and there’s lines of food trucks that each have like a 30 minute queue.

When I was in highschool (over 20 years ago now…), there were two big hangout spots: the coffee shop, and the hot weiner truck.

You all haven’t lived till you’ve choked down 4 all-the-way, lovingly crafted on some old Mediterranean guys hairy forearm, and washed it down with 24oz of iced cold coffee milk (milk with coffee-flavored syrup) at 2am.

  • I do aliases through simplelogin and have my domain hosted on mxroute.

My domain is my real last name…so I have subdomains like @myfirst.lastname.com gets pointed to simplelogin for aliases, which then forwards to mxroute. @mywifesfirst.lastname.com goes to the same simplelogin and points to her Gmail for now.

Mxroute is cheap and they’ve got decent web apps but really more made for traditional IMAP clients. And they don’t really do groupware…just email. But that’s really the hardest part, from an admin perspective.

Adminning email is getting to be a sacred art. It’s a lot of work and a constant arms race both against incoming spam, and the spam filters for whoever you are sending to. A whole ton of work for what is really an essential Internet service (when I can’t get into my credit card account because enom is slacking on forwarding mail, it’s a problem…and also why I switched to simplelogin).

For how cheap mxroute is, IMO, absolutely not worth the effort of self-hosting unless it’s actually your day job and you get some sick sadistic pleasure out of doing it on your own time.

The mxroute admin/owner himself also seems like a pretty chill guy. He’s been pretty forward and transparent on Reddit and lowendbox.

Edit to add: important stuff…make sure that you have an email address that you don’t host, to access stuff you need to for the stuff that you do (i.e. DNS, mail hoster, MFA provider, directory service, etc). I use a free proton for that.

  • Yeah so about that…

The executive unitary theory, which the party in charge of all three branches of government right now subscribe to, essentially implies that the first amendment, and really the entire sheet of parchment, is about as useful as toilet paper.

“Congress shall not” doesn’t mean shit when it’s the executive calling the shots and the only institutions that can legally stop him are controlled by his loyal party.

At this point I’m almost hoping for some team of elite western-European mercenaries to come in and take over the capital and reboot democracy with updated firmware.

C’mon world. America has spent the past hundred-some-odd years spreading our democracy like a horny teenager. Can’t someone repay the favor?

  • Well you see, legally, it’s complicated.

The only people who can go after him…work for Trump.

The people who can go after Trump are Congress. A Congress that is controlled by the party that Trump is the head of, and that head is attached directly to its ass, with absolutely no spine in between. A truly majestic creature, really.

The people who can stop him on the meantime are the courts. Which he packed with loyalists. Not just the supreme court but also many lower federal courts as well.

That’s thanks to the duodenum of the congress-beast, Mitch McConnel, who held up so many federal judge appointments during Obama’s last years in office because it was “too close to an election”. But then shoved in a new judge when RBG died two months before the 2020 election before she was even cold.

This is what most sane countries would call a “constitutional crisis”.

  • The reason to use the escalators when you’re in a hurry is because it’s twice as fast if you walk up them.

If you want to take the escalators to be lazy, that’s fine…stay to the right and out of my way. Same rules as the highway. Not complicated.

How fucking entitled are you that you “hate the concept of escalator etiquette” and you think it’s acceptable to not let people pass you? Were you a bollard in a former life?
