“Authoritarian mod craziness”? What communities were you hanging in where this was such a widespread problem?
Also .world is definitely not overwhelmingly communist. You need to start subscribing/blocking just like you probably did on Reddit. There’s no underlying algorithm making decisions for you here. You have full control of what you see. If you don’t like what you see, you can fix it!
Very cool. Thanks for sharing!
You have a very myopic view of how people make money
I’m fine with that if it’s collectively owned by the people who are doing the actual work.
Imagine working with the IRS, voting with the party that has said for years they want to defund the IRS, and then being surprised when that party attacks the IRS. I don’t fucking understand these people at all. They truly live a life devoid of reality. They are incapable of considering real world consequences.
Truly to be a conservative is to lack imagination.
I think this guide is fantastic but I find very few guides out there really drill down into the risks you take on when it comes to what is shared and hosted on your server. I don’t think people understand that when you host an instance, you are immediately held liable for any number of potential scenarios and you need to head them off out the gate or you will be facing potential legal repercussions. I like your section on blocklists but it’s so much bigger than that.
The feds and my having a family are the biggest reasons I don’t host an instance.
I didn’t say or think any of that. I was asking.
Definitely part of my research!
This is great thank you!
Thanks!
Thanks!
Thanks! Searches weren’t having it come up
Yeah I really avoid it where I can and keep it as a marketplace of last resort - especially for local purchases where i can meet the person and pay cash and never use their platform for the actual commerce. Still, I want it to be 0% lol
That doesn’t really answer the question lol
You say it’s a “smear” but is it based in truth?
All good. I do a lot of buying/selling of video game consoles and parts so I have a little more knowledge of these platforms than most.
The funny thing is Facebook marketplace is truly a Craigslist 2.0. It’s generally a great experience. I hate that zuck has control of it and I’m sure enshitification will hit it soon enough
Instagram takes 5% of the sale straight off the top
Huh that’s interesting. I wonder if I’ve experienced this but didn’t notice
I produced and edited a short video reassuring people of the safety and efficacy of the COVID vaccines during the height of the pandemic. It was an independent project me and a few concerned friends did purely because we really felt passionate about it. The site we made associated with + the video had well over 10,000 views and visitors.
Nothing earth shattering but I’m very proud of that work and I like to believe it maybe helped a few people make the right decision to vaccinate themselves/their families, as well as maybe informed people who then convinced their friends and family.
