Unions in the US seems to mostly be focused on a single location (yes I know there are large/national as well), we mostly hear about how a single factory/plant/workshop/office is unionized, but others are not.

Here in Sweden, we have sector based unions, I am an IT technician, and a decade long member of the union for skilled service workers, we have unions for hospital staff, restaurant/hotel staff, transportation workers, dockworkers, and basically every other kind of worker has a union that fits them.

Here sympathy strikes/actions are also legal, when Toys 'R Us tried to establish stores without allowing union staff members, other unions started sympathy actions, the transport union would refuse to transport their goods, the graphic designers union would not print their ads or store materials, the financial workers union would not process their invoices, and so on, and despite them coming in hard with their whole “we don’t work with unions” crap, they soon caved in and did a 180, though that didn’t stop them from crashing and burning in a relatively short time after.

Currently we have a similar situation with Tesla, they refuse to sign a collective bargaining agreement with the auto workers union, when the strike started Tesla started bringing in strike breakers from other EU countries, this has been going on for a year now, and there are sympathy actions going on, dockworkers refuse to unload Teslas, so they are being shipped in by road with non union labour, postal workers have refused to send out license plates for new Teslas, this has lead to a weird situation where Tesla is sending the license plate to a separate guy who was recently discovered to be a convicted criminal, I don’t know how this solves the issue for Tesla, and the electrical workers union have refused to install new Tesla chargers.

Sweden has actually very few laws regulating the relationship between employers and workers, that is instead dealt with between the employers and the unions, we have no legal minimum wage, that is instead dealt with through negotiations between employers and unions, there are regular negotiations in every sector, including some strikes here and there to show the power of the union.

The US workers needs something like this, though I doubt it will ever be allowed to exist.

I read that when Puttler increased his recent little tantrum in Ukraine there was an obvious shortage of petrol, but EVs could still get power which makes them a very good option to have in case of emergency.

Alternatives energy sources are good.

They could just have turned off power, but I guess they’ll argue that then people would be able to steal the chargers, so it is better to sell them to their friend for a steep discount since they are used.

Then when the political climate shifts on the issue, they can just buy new expensive chargers from their other friend!

Flying in the US.

Sweden is a functional country for the most part, but we are small in a geopolitical context.

In daily life I feel mostly fine, I have a decent job (I am on the bus to work right now), I have a good apartment (if a bit small), just ordered a new desk for my home setup, in general you can feel society bracing against “Drumpf & Puttler’s Crazy Wild Ride: The Rise of Ketamine boy”.

Biggest news lately, the school shooting in Örebro, terrible shit, and the coward perpetrator didn’t have the decency to survive so we’ll probably never know his motives which would help us prevent this in the future.

Locally we have had some small scale scandals recently, politicians disliked by most citizens but with connections getting new jobs either barely following the process or outright ignoring it, nationalistic party have their scandal politicians, other politicians scamming money from the government.

We recently had a news story about an islamist being hired as a teacher and raping a student, that guy was rejected by the security service when applying to be a security guard before being a teacher.

Personally this is how I feel when reading the news lately:

True, the skills needed to troubleshoot a a Windows 95 computer are not all relevant today, but the fact that computers had a lot of issues when I was growing up in the ninties and twothousands, means that I developed a pretty solid grasp of general computer troubleshooting, something that the kids that grew up with it-just-works ™ technology are missing, this is obviously a skill that can be learned, and over time we will see computer troubleshooting become more and more academic.

MiniDisc is probably the best designed format in terms of looks.

The discs still looks futuristic with the holographic effect and bright colors.

The size of the discs also contribute to making them a perfect prop for movies and TV shows, they are easily handled and can be integrated anywhere.

Same with a lot of the players and portable recorders.

I will never accept that MD was released 32 years ago, they can still represent contemporary society or a cool tech future.

I am sad that I never had an MD player despite growing up when they were released, I only got one or two used back in 2011-2016 to play around with, it was fun but ever since I was one of the first students with an MP3 player (a Creative Nomad MuVo 64mb) at my school back sometime in 2000-2003 I have been into solid state music players and quickly integrated them into my phone.

I doubt it was the innovation that made Atlassian buy the service, but the technology itself, they were interested in using that technology themselves and it was easier to just buy the tech rather than develop it in house.
