Can someone eli5 me why the Israeli airstrikes inside Gaza mean Egypt can't open the border?
It is almost like Israel doesn't want this aid to reach Gaza.
Because last week Israel bombed the Gaza side of the border checkpoint multiple times.
My understanding is they'd need Israeli cooperation to ensure the area Gaza-side would be safe from bombardment.
They bombed the crossing once. They can and will do it again to enforce their blockade.
Israel own a 100m strip at the border. It can't be opened unless Israel agrees.
