My son’s birthday is coming up in March and I want to get him a new phone. The guys at the electronics stores recommended me this one but I haven’t heard of OnePlus before so I don’t know.

OnePlus is fine but try to get it directly from them. Avoid reseller sites.

Is there something about OnePlus that I don’t know? I care about my privacy but have a OnePlus phone, so genuinely would appreciate some education if I’ve missed something.

Secondly, are there alternative android phones with better privacy reputations?

most of the normal recommendations are around getting some hardware close to supportable like a pixel and throwing a non OEM OS on it like lineageOS etc.

Iirc OPs usually get LOS support pretty quick? Granted my last OP was an 8 pro so it’s been a minute.

Buna. Sunt roman. Eu, personal, din experienta proprie si din cea a rudelor si a colegilor, telefoanele de la “honor” sunt ieftine si de calitate. Uite un link pentru un honor x7b, un telefon aspectuos, performant si ieftin:

Telefon HONOR X7b, 128GB, 6GB RAM, Dual SIM, Emerald Green

    https://altex.ro/telefon-honor-x7b-128gb-6gb-ram-dual-sim-emerald-green/cpd/SMTHONORX7BGR/

Peste acest pret, imbunatatirile sunt minime, iar pentru aproape oricone, acest telefon este mai mult decat suficient. Totusi, honor ofera si telefoane mai scumpe:

Telefon HONOR 200 5G, 512GB, 12GB RAM, Dual SIM, Green

    https://altex.ro/telefon-honor-200-5g-512gb-12gb-ram-dual-sim-green/cpd/SMTHNR200GR/

Acest telefon are aceiasi stocare ca cel postat de tine, iar la viteza diferenta ar trebui sa fie minima. Totusi, recomand prudenta in cumpararea unui telefon nou.

Cat despre OnePlus, este un telefon chinez. La fel ca honor, xiaomi, redmi, poco etc. Surprinzator, sunt chiar telefoane bune, cu un pret foarte bun.

Mult noroc in cumpararea telefonului potrivit!

Look, people, stop downvoting me. The picture he sent is in romanian, so I wrote in romanian.

Having owned the OPX, OP6, and OP9, I would describe OnePlus as “good hardware, mediocre software.”. This time around I opted for a Pixel 8 Pro with GrapheneOS, but I prefer OnePlus over most manufacturers.

Just got mine a few weeks ago, after my 5T finally started using most of its battery during a normal day. Got a solid 7 years out of it. So far the 13 is solid, and I’m looking forward to the next 5-7 years with it.

So far the most battery I’ve used is 50% in one day, and that’s only charging it up to 80%. I could probably make it last over 2 days if I needed to.

I bought a 12 in December when they were on sale due to the looming 13 launch. The stock OS is pretty good and the hardware is well speced. I came from a Pixel 3a and have owned a number of pixel and Nexus phones over the years.

It’s a bit large physically, which can present some challenges with pockets and single handed operation. It’s roughly the same size as an iPhone pro max for a size reference.

The rounded screen can be love/hate for some. If your son is prone to dropping things, it might be worth looking at a phone with more traditional bezels. Even the more protective cases have lower sides on the two long edges of the screen to let your finger reach the edges of the display.

As for the brand, they are pretty popular globally, but their availability locally really depends on where you live. In the US, you used to be able to buy them in T-Mobile stores, but that stopped a while ago. I don’t know of any brick and mortar stores that you can walk into and pick one up, although Best Buy does have them in their local warehouses and can get you one somewhat quickly.

My previous two phones were from OP and they were both great. I was tempted to get the OP13, mostly because of the battery, just couldn’t justify spending that much on a smartphone at the moment when I already have one that works.

I haven’t heard of OnePlus before so I don’t know.

I’ve had a few OnePlus phones. They’re a major Chinese manufacturer. I’d say that their phones have historically been notable among brands mostly for focusing on having a higher charging rate than competitors at the same point in time. They’re somewhat-cheaper than comparable models from some of the other brands that I’ve looked at, like Samsung.

I don’t have any specific complaints about them. They do some OEM customization, aren’t a “pure Android” experience, if that’s what you want.

If you want some cheep good hardware, look into getting one with good custom rom support. That will get rid of the trash the OEM will put on there.
