I think the saying is about not losing sight of the big picture while focusing on the details. I think you may focus on the trees and the animals and the mushrooms. But you should also see the whole and the interplay between the individual parts. Presumably.

I think it has to do with the need for attention and closeness. When you lack it, you turn to the person who has already fulfilled this need for you. It's hard to live with unfulfilled needs that you can't fulfill yourself. I guess the key is to learn how to find a relationship where your feelings are reciprocated (and to find out when they are not). I know that feeling and I don't have a solution.
I don't know whether this is a characteristic that is more prevalent in autistic people.

You seem ambivalent about the topic. I understand your arguments, but I don't agree with your solution. That doesn't need to bother you. We probably have very different requirements for transportation.
I live in an area where I don't need a car to get where I want to - bike, bus and train are sufficient. And I don't normally need to transport so much that I need a car. And if I need a car I get a rental for a short time.
Sometimes I shake my head a little in disbelief because I find the trend towards more individual transportation within large cars concerning. But then again my lifestyle isn't for everyone and who am I to judge? (But I'm entitled to my own opinion. ;)
Just get an even bigger car, it will keep you safe from those.
