Exactly. That’s why I personally don’t mind buying digital games on PC, because the PC is an open platform. If Valve decides to drop the ball and sell every game for double the price or something, I can still get and copy games via other means on my Steam Deck

That’s not how it works at all. Valve doesn’t set the prices in their store, the publishers do. Valve just takes a cut of whatever the publisher decides to charge. If a publisher for a game decides to double the price for a game, why would they do so only on Steam and not on every other store that game is sold?

PSN has sales just like the stores for PC games, there’s no difference there. The difference is that the non-sale price on PC is lower.

You also seem to be under the impression that digital stores work like physical ones, where the store buys their wares from a distributer and then decides at what price to sell it to the consumer, maybe even at a loss when they want to clear inventory. This is not how digital sales work.

Digital stores operate according to what’s known as the ‘agency model’. They don’t set the price of the products, they just take a cut of the sale. The prices are set by the publishers. Even sales work that way, the stores don’t determine the sales price, instead they go to the publishers and say “we’re going to do a sales event, want to join in?”.

For each individual game, the publisher of that game has a monopoly. There is absolutely zero competition between stores on individual games because they do not have any control over the pricing of games in the first place. The publisher set the price for each store.

You don’t have to believe me, just look at the price for PC games which are already digital-only.

PC games don’t have an open market in the way you think.

The reason digital console games are more expensive than physical is precisely because physical console games are still a thing. Digital prices are kept high to not piss off the physical stores. If digital was cheaper then the brick and mortar stores would sell way less games. Shelf space in stores is limited and if they don’t sell enough games they rather use that space for something more profitable. As such, lowering digital prices would effectively end physical game sales.

Once you take physical sales out of the equation digital prices will drop. The fact digital PC games are so much cheaper proves this.

I bought a digital-only PS5 because I know I will never buy a physical game. I bought a handful of physical games for my PS4 and I still regret it.

I gladly trade time and convenience for a little extra money.

I do think that using the phase changes of water as the sole point of comparison is a bad argument.

Why? Water is extremely important to life and very abundant. The phases changes of water are something that you are confronted with in every day life, all the time.

For most people, the interaction with temperature is through the weather, and I don’t think Celsius is inherently better for that.

I do, because the temperature being above or below freezing is a very important boundary. Freezing temperatures means slippery roads, frost on windows, car locks freezing shut, etc. A lot of our interaction with the world outside is affected by the temperature being below or above 0ºC. By comparison, 0ºF is completely arbitrary, nothing changes when you cross that boundary.

I like that in Fahrenheit 0 is a cold winter’s day, and 100 is a hot summer’s day.

10ºF is also a cold day, so is 20ºF and 30ºF. Just like 90ºF is also a hot summers day.

I find that more relevant in day-to-day life than the phase changes of water.

None of those seem relevant to me. I don’t need a round number to know that 37ºC is a hot day. There is no significance to 100ºF. 99ºF is also a hot day and so is 101ºF. Nothing interesting happens when you cross the 100ºF threshold.

When you cross the 0ºC or 100ºC, potentially dangerous things start to happen of which you need to be aware.

It’s dark early because it’s winter. DST sucks in summer, we should move the clock an hour backwards in summer, not forwards.

Every cat I’ve had during my life regulated their own food intake. The important bit is that they consistently have food available. Once they learn to trust that it’s always there they don’t over-eat.

They also get a pouch of wet food every evening. Although it is very important to them that they get this (my cat sits next to her bowl and starts staring at me with this “I’m not angry, just disappointed” look about half an hour before dinner time) they don’t even always finish all their wet food.

It kind of depends on the season how much they eat. In winter they empty their wet food bowls, in summer they eat about 70% and leave the rest.

I just keep the bag of dry food next to their bowls. Neither has ever tried to get into it, probably because it’s just easier to eat from their bowls that we ensure has plenty of dry food in it 24/7.

I was raised catholic and went to a catholic primary school. At one point we had a class where we would visit the local catholic church once a week and the priest would explain things about how things worked in church.

On one such occasion he pointed out a red light near the altar and said that the light indicated that god was present in church. (Apparently it’s called a ‘sanctuary light’ in English). I spent an entire week trying to figure out how this god-detector worked. I had several designs worked out in my head, like it having an unreachable switch that could only be pressed by god himself.

The next week we arrived at church a little early and I caught the priest putting a candle in it and lighting it himself. That’s when I started to realize the whole thing was one big scam.

It’s $99 a year. I wish my hobbies were that cheap.

I have no problems with this. Notarizing your app is trivial and takes just a few minutes. As a user I want to know who actually produced an app and ensure it wasn’t tampered with.

It’s a bit of a PITA to be honest. Having to pre-heat the brew chamber is annoying and makes the whole process slow. They just released the Pro 3 which uses a different brew chamber that has a lower heat capacity and doesn’t need preheating (according to Flair). It’s compatible with the 2 so I’m probably going to get the pro 3 brew chamber once available.

I’d skip the pro 2 and either get a 3 or the 58 with the electric heater.
