Can you link me one time the government made a change google didn’t agree with, google continued operating as normal against the change, and challenged that change in court? That change being anything other than a new regulation that attempted to restrict some aspect of Google’s business?
The only thing I’m able to find is essentially anti-trust lawsuits related to google search being the default in iOS and Android. I’m basically looking for any legal challenge google “resisted” for some societal good.
(Edit: this isn’t like a challenge to your argument, I would just like to be better informed to see if google actually has partook in some sort of activism against the government other than fighting to continue their terrible business practices)
What are you talking about? I said that google should show what is fact, not their opinion. Pretending the US’s official name for the body of water is the gulf of Mexico is denying the truth of what is happening. Other people outside the US report that the gulf hasn’t been renamed for their location, this is a US problem.
And yet he does with no consequences because of the Republican administration (and frankly, the non-progressive Democrats). It’s not Google’s job to be a check on the government. If the US government department that manages natural landmark names has that set in their records, that’s what should be reported.
First off fuck trump
But my hot take is that google should show it as gulf of america and remove holidays from the calendar. Google should be a source of fact and the fact is the Republican administration has officially renamed the gulf of Mexico and removed those as federally recognized holidays.
Google shouldn’t be “protesting”, the blame here is on the US government. I dont want Google’s “opinion” on things when I search. Be mad at Google when they also refuse to do black history doodles on their front page (like, right now I think)
The New Orleans police department is the government
The reason stories exist of the underdog winning, is because the underdogs lose almost all the time.
Think of how common a story it is that a Walmart being built in a small town basically shutters all the local businesses.
Also, David basically brought a gun to a knife fight against Goliath. Seems like Goliath should have been considered the underdog :3
A 1.8% difference of the popular vote, but the popular vote doesn’t win elections. Dems lost way more than by 1.8%
And don’t forget they lost the house and senate.
But what are illegal immigrants doing that is bad? They pay taxes (sales tax, property tax via rent, and income tax if they have a stolen ID), they buy things, they contribute labor. We’re spending money to deport and hold them. It’s all a net negative.
If the problem is that they are undocumented, then document them. Give them work visas. They don’t get the right to vote or have access to welfare systems with a work visa.
How many children of immigrants speak really good English? They usually translate for their parents in my experience. Which means they are assimilating to the culture. It also seems most time the first child might have a more ethnic name, the first grandchildren usually have more American names.
Illegal immigrants commit less crime per capita, which makes sense because if you are here illegally and do crime, you get deported after your sentence. They have a bigger incentive to not do crime.
America was built by immigrants, we’re known as the cultural melting pot. When did it become such a big deal and so restricted to enter the country? Our birth rates arent high enough to sustain us forever, we need immigration. It just seems like we artificially made immigrating here harder so that people would inevitably sneak in so the capital owners had access to a cheaper workforce who won’t speak out about injustices for fear of being deported.
Because Trump paints with an ugly brush and will surely target pro Palestine protesters who didn’t break a law. And this is clearly the government retaliating against free speech and the right to protest.
Every person who crossed the border illegally or overstayed their visa according to Trump is a racist, murdering, drug dealer. Why would these protesters be any different?
Aren’t we in favor of deporting 7% of our population? (25 million illegal immigrants/ 335 million)?
Is population size really that important to you?
Elons two main businesses only exist because of government handouts. 7500 electric vehicle tax credit over 100,000s of cars is well into the billions. With how close Tesla came to insolvency, the ability to reach more customers surely saved Tesla.
And spaceX (and more money for starlink) he has got billions more directly and is slated to receive even more even though SpaceX has missed deadlines over and over and the goal of propping up SpaceX was so we could have a cheaper option than Russia to getting people to the ISS is now not even on the table.
What’s the over/under twitter gets government subsidies with some paper thin argument like “it’s the public square of the Internet, so it’s basically a park, and since we get 10x the yearly visitors than the grand canyon, we deserve 10x it’s budget to help maintain our “free speech” park”
“If you don’t tip don’t go out”? Telling people who want to see the tipping culture removed to not go out means that either way, the waiter doesn’t get tipped. Europe has restaurants, so clearly tipping or not tipping doesn’t dictate the existence of restaurants.
If a waiter works an entire shift and receives no tip, they are entitled to actual minimum wage instead of the reduced minimum wage. So there shouldn’t be any moral misgiving to not tipping, it’s just social pressure.
Well, just picking Kamala was probably a better choice than having a contested open primary for 3 weeks leading up to the convention. People couldn’t even vote on that primary, it would just be a vibe check the superdelegates decided on.
I don’t think their vote even decided the race since Kamala lost PA and GA too. We shouldn’t blame them either, blame the DNC for running Biden a second term until the final hour.
The DOJ, through the FBI informants who communicated with Philippi for months, outlined the rough details of Philippi’s alleged plan, which it said was motivated by racial hatred. According to the DOJ, Philippi was connected with several white-supremacist groups
The FBI seemed to think he was connected with white supremacists, so I would imagine he’s pro Trump. Seems a bit of a stretch for a white supremacist to vote for a non white candidate.
Isn’t it normally code to have a fence around a pool? So even if he had a medical episode while riding a lawnmower, surely a fence would have stopped the mower.
I have to imagine that he refused to have a fence around his pool because big government can’t tell him what to do, so perhaps this death is from hubris.
“We need to use the military on the enemy within if necessary”
“Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi are examples of enemies from within”
Seems pretty clear.
He wants to use the military against “left leaning lunatics”. Well if he refers to everyone on the left as a lunatic, then that’s everyone who disagrees with him. He sometimes defines the “lunatics” as the communist and Marxist in the party. But we already had McCarthyism once, what about second McCarthyism? Is anyone who votes left just a secret communist in disguise?
I can see this random tweet from Taylor Swift just fine in incognito mode. I can’t look at replies but I can see her posts.

People on Lemmy link to tweets all the time and I can navigate and read them. Not sure what you mean then that it’s authwalled. It’s an annoying experience and it bugs me every time I visit to make an account or log in, but I can see them.
So I guess they don’t like that over 90% of immigrants return for their court hearing, so if they make it so ICE detains and deport people who return for their hearings, that percentage will go down and it’s another propaganda point that catch and release is a failure.
