Honestly, joining a community just for the type of content they have or what they filter is useless. Best approach for me is to have access to everything and then filter what you don’t like by yourself.

I used it until recently thinking the same, but it just became too broken for me. I’m on thunder now and I got it to work exactly the way I used sync and everything seems to actually be working.

I specifically remember looking up tables of who defederates from who and what instances allow NSFW or downvoting because this was an issue among some of the top instances back then.

I ended up making 4 different accounts over 2 months until I landed on a server I’m happy with. That will never be acceptable to any normal user.

Every time someone brings up these issues, people here downplay them like you are doing it right now and nothing is ever done about it.

I agree, on both accounts. This is why I filter mine, but I am a super tiny minority. Everyone else just chugs plastic all day.

Of course, but even though it’s considered perfectly safe to drink, the tap water in Catalonia and many other places in Spain is disgusting tasting if you don’t filter it and most people don’t even try, they just lug the 5l bottles every other day from the shops.

I feel like romanians are casually all of the negative things you mentioned but at the same time they are very inclussive when someone tries their best to integrate. Also Romanians are mean to Romanians most of the time, but also would probably be super friendly to an American.

I think it’s because businesses tend to focus on super easy access, user interface and user engagement first, while open source projects tend to focus on tech and often forget about the end user experience.

This strategy has been working pretty great for oil companies. They’ve managed to extend their existence for decades.

Coax used to get faster than 100mbps. We are in an age where 1Gbps is standard in many parts of the world thanks to fiber. Again, starlink is cool but not a direct competitor to cabled internet today.

I don’t have complaints, it’s just not a comparable technology. It has much lower bandwidth and way higher latency for a higher price. It’s good for its purpose which is to give access to people that could not get it otherwise.

Do I have to say it? Starlink is much worse in every metric compared to fiber. It’s a decent option for people that don’t have access to fiber or need internet in remote places.

In the end it doesn’t really matter. What matters is that what I get as a result is relevant. No ads, no 3rd party interests, easy filters, customizable and useful output.
