You never know when old games just don’t work. For example I recently tried to play deus ex mankind divided. I have new hardware but I had to play on medium settings because anything higher would start killing performance despite the game being 5 years older than my hardware.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some older games ran like shit on the 50 series cards whenever physx is concerned.

I’m going to be a bit controversial but I think Harris getting elected wouldn’t have solved people not being able to afford to rent let alone buy a house, it would’ve have solved the cost of living, the abhorrent state of health care, the laughably poor labor rights etc. Harris would’ve had a better impact on an international stage (for example not turning former allies against the US) but for America it would’ve a road down the significantly less steeper hill than what Trump brought, however downhill nonetheless. Americans are getting screwed regardless of who they vote for because the politicians work for the corporations not the American people.

Alternatively, sow chaos and step down. Everything Trump tears down is something he could use to keep people complacent. Since he’s tearing down faster than he can rebuild we might even see an insurrection to topple the government and build something better. Holding out is just prolonging the decay and letting people accept the new norm of a dysfunctional government.

As others have already pointed out, you can literally get the same result by using images as quotes. People could’ve been shitty even without the quotation feature because it’s not the feature on the platform that makes it shitty, it’s the people on the platform who decide to use it for a shitty purpose.

Not implementing a feature because morons may abuse it is not justification for not implementing a feature. It’s like saying we shouldn’t be able to reply to comments because someone might use that feature to directly send you hateful comments. Now, if the features primary purpose is (or primary use case ends up being) to use it negatively, then sure it shouldn’t be implemented. But I don’t see how quotation falls under this exception. In my eyes quotation is a net positive.

Hypothetically you could have a separate “previous names” table where you keep the previous names and on the main table you only keep the current name. There are a lot of ways to design a db to not unnecessarily duplicate SSNs, but without knowing the implementation it’s hard to say how wrong Musk is. But it’s obvious he doesn’t know what he’s talking about because we know that due to human error SSN-s are not unique and you can’t enforce uniqueness on SSN-s without completely fucking up the system. Tech savvy would be to start your instances. Going through the process of picking an instance and registering there is no more tech savvy than registering with facebook or any other online site. The complexity keeping people away isn’t technical, it’s domain specific. People don’t know how to choose an instance because they’re not given enough information to actually tell instances apart.

I have a more optimistic outlook. If they get spread out there’s a higher chance of them getting out of their echo chamber and becoming a normal person. And let’s be real, the worst of them will go into Lemmygrad to continue their circlejerk and thus won’t bother the wider fediverse. And the worst of them probably already have alts on other instances where they stir up shit.

The one that came off the top of my head is Kynseed. It’s kinda like a more gamified Stardew valley that loses a bit of that personalized Stardew Valley charm due to the breadth of different systems and minigames. The only obviously bad things to say about the game are that there are both too many different systems in the game (which makes some of them feel kinda shallow) and the game takes too much time getting you through the fundamental systems. But beyond that there’s a lot of lore, the different systems work well together, the minigames are all polished, there’s loads of content - I can’t find a good reason why it’s not a popular game, it just isn’t.

I understand the same way and I think there’s a lot of gray area which makes it hard to just say “the data also needs to be open source for the code to be open source”. What would that mean for postgreSQL? Does it magically turn closed source if I don’t share what’s in my db? What would it mean to every open source software that stores and uses that stored data?

I’m not saying the AI models shouldn’t be open source, I’m saying reigning in the models needs to be done very carefully because it’s very easy to overreach and open up a whole other can of worms.

Never liked that rule. The king should be a capturable piece and be allowed to step into checks. It might make the game harder at a beginner level but it gets rid of the anticlimactic stalemates. It won’t get rid of draws because the repetition rule still applies.

Yeah. IMO democrats refusing to acknowledge the state of the economy is what tipped the scale. And we don’t actually need everyone to switch to Linux. Much like with Lemmy we need enough people to have thriving communities with Linux we need just enough people for companies to start properly supporting Linux.

I’ve very rarely disliked “prepping”. For example building boss arenas in Terraria or setting up my equipment for a hunt in Monster Hunter or learning about the monsters in Witcher 3. Anything that lets me prepare for future encounters is a system I enjoy, even if it’s only superficial.

I hate it only when it’s turned into somekind of a survival element that exists solely for the purpose of resource management. For example I hated hunger and water in Subnautica. From a certain point forward those two things become just mindless busywork because when you plant it in your base it just grows and whenever you need to fill up you just go to your base and eat and drink and there’s no upside nor a real downside to those two mechanics.
