I agree with the sentiment, but I don’t think a military alliance with Russia is even on the table. That’d be replacing one abusive “ally” with another.
Just because America is suddenly untrustworthy and a risk, doesn’t mean that Russia isn’t a threat anymore.
Imo, Europe is better off forging its own path, only collaborating with countries such as China when it is in our strategic interest to do so.
Hitler was very vocal of his disdain for democracy, and he ran on that platform afaik.
The democratic Weimar Republic was what ruined Germany in his view.

While I dont think Macron made the best call there, its not entirely accurate to say the left coalition won a majority. They won 182 out of 577 seats (31.5%) which makes them the largest minority, but not a majority.
Coalitions don’t necessarily include the largest minority. If the other parties for whatever reason find the differences too inreconsilable, then you cannot form a coalition.

In the Dutch parliamentary system we do have a two-house structure (i.e. we have a Parliament and a Senate), while also having proportional representation.
There is a national election every four years that determines the make-up of the national parliament. The result directly proportionally determines the seat division (150 seats total).
There is also a provincial election every four years. This directly proportionally determines the seat division of the respective provincial houses.
But it also indirectly determines the make-up of the Senate. The provincial houses hold their own election and vote for the seat division of the Senate (75 seats total for 12 provinces).
It is traditionally seen that Parliament proposes, argues and passes legislation, while the Senate checks the passed legislation for constitutionality before giving it their sign of approval.
Another view is that Parliament is the direct representation of the people, while the Senate is the national representation of the provincial houses.
I think it is worth keeping in mind that an electoral system doesn’t have to be exactly like the theoretically pure version. You can mix and match elements to something that would suit your situation best (for instance in terms of achievability)
To my knowledge Bluesky does not use ActivityPub and is therefore not compatible with Mastodon for federation
They use a different underlying protocol for communication between instances, called AT Protocol

I’m no political analyst… and I do fear the possibility of a CDU + AfD coalition being possible… But from what I’ve seen over the past few days the CDU and SPD seem to be pre-sorting for a CDU + SPD coalition, which is also possible if the polls are to be believed.
I wouldn’t quite lose hope yet.
Edit: I’m still highly annoyed though that Germany let the government collapse now, right as Europe needs to get its act together and make preparations for another Trump term.

I feel bad for the Americans who knew what Trump stood for and voted Harris to at least prevent that.

I might be mistaken, but ultimately a password manager is basically nothing more than a database of passwords in an encrypted zip file, right? That could entirely be self-hosted with off the shelf open source applications stringed together.
All you’d need is a nice UI stringing it all together.

I like to think that these videos are the only thing keeping Patrick Boyle sane from his career in finance.
His channel is great. I love his dry sense of humour.
People who have a more in-the-middle opinion generally don’t talk about AI a lot. People with the most extreme opinions on something tend to be the most vocal about them.
Personally I think it’s a neat technology, and there probably exist use-cases where it will work decently well. I don’t think it’ll be able to do everything and anything that the AI companies are promising right now, but there are certainly some tasks where an AI tool could help increase efficiency.
There are also issues with the way the companies behind the Large Language Models are sourcing their training data, but that is not an inherent issue of the technology. It’s more an issue with incorrectly licensing the material.
I’m just curious to see where it all goes.

It’s absolutely infuriating and flat-out an insult that Ukraine and Europe would not be allowed a seat at the negotiation table.
Ukraine not being allowed to decide about their own fate is ridiculous at best.
And Europe was just as much a partner in aiding Ukraine as America was, if not more.
All I can say is that this whole thing reminds me a lot of the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact
