I think this varies depending on where you live. Some places are freer than others and do see their taxpayer funds being respected with progressive initiatives being funded, public spaces becoming more accessible, and social programs decently furnished for as long as I can remember. They pass with a little skimming off the top, if you know why I mean. But besides that, I doubt this would be the case if we were being completely overrun by other interests like in the 80s.

That said, we do have examples like the Iguala mass kidnapping from 2014 where a local government colluded with ex-cartels members to disappear 43 students. So overall, to me, it’s a mixed bag.
