  • Another thing that I hadn’t really thought about before reading another comment in this thread is that the arch wiki install guide (and other pages) are written with the assumption that you want to understand what you’re doing. And I think for many people that’s just not the case. Which is fair enough, not everyone enjoys tinkering with software. Just like I’m currently paying someone to build my new pc for me because I really don’t enjoy doing that. But there have been a few places within the arch install process where I had to research some background info to know what to optimally do for my use case instead of taking a guess and hoping it works out. And that’s quite a barrier, I see people struggle with similar things all the time at work. If any research is required beyond what your step by step guide is telling them, many people will give up.

  • I agree in principle, and overall violent revolution is likely to be a horrible thing for many, but I think the issue for people is that they’ve tried the peaceful way and get suppressed by every system that exists. Threatening the rich isn’t about getting rid of them per se (at least it shouldn’t be, because new people will just fill the void) but about applying pressure for those with the most power to enact change to do so, hopefully leading to a less exploitative system.

It’s not that hard to keep people happy enough for them to not try to literally murder you, but if you fail at even that, you might have the drive to change it.

It’s just the opposite social expectation here. And honestly it bothers me not because some people do it but because it feels like american puritanism taking over online spaces because it’s even in screenshots. Like holy shit you’re quoting someone just leave the swearing in.

  • Depending on what games you play it’s anywhere from unusable (games with incompatible anticheat) to flat out better than windows even ignoring all the surrounding bullshit. But many of these gsmes with anticheat are among the most popular games in the world, so there’s plenty of reason not to change just bc of those for a lot of people.

When there are 2 choices and you choose neither that is opting out of a decision, and nothing else. It’s throwing your hands up and saying “well i cant change it anyway, let’s just do nothing”.

Also, stop pretending like trumps and kamalas stances are identical. They’re not. Trump is right up there with netanyahu in seeing palestinians as subhuman.

And american voters also didn’t get to do anything about the palestinian genocide because there were two choices and pretending there were more is delusional at best. And the choice was between a party unwilling to take a strong stance against it vs a party actively encouraging it and saying they’d help. While also openly wanting to genocide minority groups in their own country.

Well, there is a third choice. It’s the centrist choice of either not voting or voting for an irrelevant party, equivalent to saying “let the others decide”.

  • Those will always be a small part. If it’s culturally clear what is harrassment and shouldn’t be tolerated, it’s far more likely that 1) there are actual consequences to sexual harrassment because victims feel comfortable speaking up and 2) that bystanders will try to intervene. Both of which make it less likely for anyone to even try.

When speaking up is met with “you dressed wrong”, “he was just trying to get to know you”, that is the core problem. Adding “you were on the wrong train car” isn’t necessarily helpful.

Japans women-only cars are sadly necessary, but the focus should be on making them unnecessary, not adding gender segregation in more places.

  • Being scared isn’t really something you can control. So I think what matters is whether that affects how she treats men.

As someone who also is quite scared of strangers when no one is around, I mostly just avoid that situation to begin with. If that’s not possible or it’s just too severe, it’s definitely something where looking into professional help could help her, if it’s available. Though not listening to true crime podcasts would probably be a good start…

The thing you’re missing here is that a lot of people are not capable of reading the animals’ body language. Hence, permit. Also the part where just taking some wild animal home as a pet isn’t ok, and to actually care for one you would usually require some pretty specialized knowledge.

I also fully agree that dogs above a certain size should require permits because holy fuck I know most of them are pretty chill and at most kinda loud but they still scare the hell out of me and I can’t trust their owners to control them in all cases. And while knowledge of how to handle them is more common, some people still fuck that up…
