Oh my god, they wouldn’t consider genocide would they?!

It’s worth getting familiar with how tarrifs impact the economy in general. This is a good overview in my opinion.
Wait, the ~14,000 dead children complied with American restrictions? The damaging or destruction of over 80% of all structures in Gaza was within restrictions? Interesting. It’s honestly going to be tough for the victims of genocide to tell the difference. It actually may benefit Israel’s victims since America is likely to massively lose influence in the world with the clown car pulling into Washington. Many nations who likely want to push back against the genocide are under huge American pressure to stay silent and complicit, hopefully as America loses influence that could change.
Not saying that will occur, just an opinion.
Having elected a fascist autocrat, who already prepared the way by having the supreme court declare him above the law. Living in the country with the most militarized police, a nation with a massive capability to spy on it’s own citizens, citizens who have little critical thinking capability to begin with. A society where social media creates the reality those poorly educated citizens live in, and social media is owned by oligarchs who benefit from a system where pleasing one narcissistic leader gives them power over regulators and increases their wealth more rapidly. I think people are a little optimistic to believe we can’t call the next election today.
You have to frame everything in terms that apply to trump. His goal is to be in a room with Putin, being praised for dealing with the Ukraine problem. He wants to be acknowledged by another dictator and strong man, that’s it. He’ll definitely pressure both Ukraine and their European supporters to accept Russian conquest of Ukrainian territory so he can get a ceasefire. It’s not because he hates Ukraine, he probably doesn’t care about them at all, it’s just the pursuit of affirmation for himself. It’s up to Europe, and hopefully RoK, to push forward and give democracy a win to raise everyone’s morale.
It stands for You’ll Never Walk Alone, it’s a motto and anthem of Liverpool FC.
Since I don’t see much football stuff on Lemmy, this is Mohammed Salah, an Egyptian footballer and premier league royalty. YNWA
It should be ok, oil infrastructure is usually pretty far from schools and hospitals, Israels preferred targets.
This is a good article that deeply examines Trump’s use of grandiose and unsupported claims, made up “facts”, and the difficulty in framing and reacting to it experienced by media and politicians. I don’t think dumbing down the wording to “Trump lies” will do anything to improve it. The entire premise and text of the article takes it as given that Trump lies so frequently and thoroughly that it transcends being a liar and becomes an alternative reality his followers have bought into. If you’re worried they’re not calling him out, you should read it.
To be fair, would you want to be the judge that threw him in jail when the military comes to break him out following an election victory? Looking into America from the outside, people are hedging their bets with possible dictatorship.
I think this is pretty accurate. It would also be understandable if the US wantt a very active partner in the very obvious crimes against humanity. The overall colonial land appropriation that Israel is built on, and the general apartheid system Palestinians are subjected to is one thing. The emergency transfer of munitions which will be used to commit war crimes within days is way more acute. It’s tough to watch.
While there obviously are narratives in media, the Biden situation is very interesting to me. Biden is an 81 year-old man. The job he was in the running for is high stress and very important. The media reported on the obvious and completely understandable concerns that voters and politicians had with his candidacy. Given the enormous stakes for countries like mine, outside but influenced by the US, our media also reported on the very real confusion and concern that our citizens had. Trying to say it is some kind of hit job seems to massively oversimplify things.
That’s not necessary, as far as I understand there’s a 2/3 majority required to carry an impeachment (not American, so could be wrong). That’s not possible with roughly 50% republican votes. The impeachment can’t succeed, but it’s their job to try, and it also puts the evidence on the record.
The problem is, he isn’t fit. He’s just less unfit. People are frustrated that instead of a normal, reasonable alternative, they have to pick the less ridiculous of two ridiculous options.
As a Canadian watching this, knowing that his loss would accelerate the shift to a dictatorship south of the border, it’s so disheartening. What is wrong with the Democrats, it’s bizarre. I can’t even imagine having to vote for a candidate like him, that it’s even a question when his opponent is such an absolute clown. It’s the dumbest timeline.
This was interesting to listen to, the only thing left is single issue voting. A vote for whatever is put across from Trump, regardless of who or what it is, opens the chance for another election to try again.
Maybe if Ukraine could get their hands on some Palestinians, then they could parachute a few of them in at the target location first to get Biden excited about bombing. It seems to work elsewhere.
It’s perfectly reasonable for PC gamers who use the Steam platform, which provides copy protection, to be annoyed by having to sign onto services they otherwise would never use. There is no purpose to it aside from marketing and data collection.
I don't think the protests would be happening if the current administration wasn't providing significant assistance in the acts of genocide being perpetrated by Israel. I'm very glad I'm not American, faced with voting for an evil man who has deep connections to genocide to prevent an evil man who will accelerate the course of the country into fascism. I am however a little concerned that my country is on the same continent.
What if they denounce Israel and it genocide, or perhaps it’s unilateral attacks on their country without declaration of war, or their occupation of Syrian territory? I think we know how things are going to go for Syria.
