  • Tsss, calling me an old nerd on lemmy. You’re a nerd! You’re on Lemmy!

But yes, i wildly, loudly concur woth most of this thread: my kids can’t be bothered with HOW something works. It just has to work. No interest at all in tcp, udp, whats a bit, byte why is everything in multiples of 8: that’s all nerd shit. And, indeed: my shit. Dad! You’re the nerd: fix this!

  • Vandalism is always bullshit and a gargantuan dick move.

Especially against stuff owned by a private person. Someone saved for that or worse: took out a loan for it. That car represents a year, 2 years or even more of work.

There is nothing what justifies it.

I dont like [billionaire]. Lets destroy the property of [random dude] who probably also doesn’t like [billionaire].

    It’s bullshit.

I dont like trump. Just give me your adress so I can destroy your home. What do you say? You dont like Trump either, you only laughed once during the dumb bullshit of the apprentice? There you have it! Let me wreck all your shit!

You can explain it away all you like but its still bullshit.

  • As a (probably) even older guy I find it the weirdest thing ever. “watching games being played”. It’s boring AF.

Sure, I can’t t play counterstrike effectively anymore. Sure I am the one with the most deaths in helldivers2. Doom eternal is just way too twitchy for me. I’ve become too slow. In mechwarrior 5 I have too put the difficulty on story/easy and aim assist on. Which hurt my old ego the most to be honest.

But doing it still beats the shit out of watching it.

Especially these days when every streamer is an egocentric manchilds screaming their head off in a totally scripted “episode”. Or girls in bikinis only because it sells. Can we just leave that in hooters? And everything is bought and paid for. You’re watching a commercial. Or do you really think that logo on his mike just happens to be in view? Or the brand of the gaming chair?or that cupboard behind him filled with lights and gaming gear? Its ultra consumerism. And the begging for money. Fuck off. Really.

    I hate it.

I miss total biscuit. That was entertainment.

I build my own systems. And I dont know what y’all are smoking but a typical windows installation has the complexity of opening a jar of pickles. Next next yes and away we go.

    Linux on the other hand…

Now, if you want to debloat and install without a ms account then yes. But then… Really… Who does that? (i mean of the typical windows users

  • The books (since they all share the old testament in one way or another) talk about it, us being good shepards and responsible for all beings. Just a little, but it is there. Somewhere in the beginning.

It’s just that we’re assholes and if something doesn’t fit our narrative we ignore it.

Just like all the books make killing crime no 1, but we go “yeah, no” when it suits us. (in war you may kill because i say so and you may kill that Israeli, westerner or arab because they are subhuman unbelievers/desert rags.)

The commandments are very clear and there are no exceptions possible according to the book. But we made those up anyway. Which is weird. Here we have the guiding principles of being, given to us by god and we choose to disregard them. Sometimes even in the name of god/allah/Jahweh.

Disclaimer: not an active Christian. Just had to go to a lot of sunday school in my day.

So… If i read this correctly… The net difference is zero? Except when I’m being an asshole and I dont tip.

So in the end, this boils down to offering the option of being an asshole to your customers.

As an european I always find this discussion weird. And when visiting stateside I never really can “gauge” what I should tip. Am i in a joint which underpays the server? Is (s)he fine? Is 10% enough? More? Should i just make it whole? I just never know. I sometimes even have resorted to just bluntly ask the server or a patron what is customary. (my weird accent helps getting an honest answer)

It’s quite honestly a shit fest. There is an amount on the billl… But that isnt the real amount, except when you’re an asshole. And if you over tip you’re still an asshole, just a stupid one, and if you’re undertip you’re also an asshole.

Come to think about it: it really boils down to which kind of asshole do you want to be.
