kbin has been all around better for me. i am on kbin.social right now. so i can do both, tje communities and the microblogs (mastadon)
the amount of people on activitypub that are excited for Instagram threads amazes me.
This isn’t true. There was always hate but with social media bad people find more bad people. Hell, when the first issue of captain America came out, it had a picture of Cap punching Hitler. They received death threats, not just on the phone but in the street.
The main difference in my childhood was that I never heard from people of hate because i grew up in a very liberal area. There wasn’t a good way for them to organize.
So let’s say you use your credit card to buy drinks at the bar every single night. This data gets to the health insurance company and they might raise your rates. I remember 15+ years ago talking about credit data with people who were involved. This is before facebook was anywhere as big as it is now (to give context). I worked for a company that developed software for POS terminals and no one ever heard of the company I worked for except this girl I met from American express. They wanted so badly to get data from us.
