Terrorism, according to the United Nations General Assembly:
Criminal acts intended or calculated to provoke a state of terror in the general public, a group of persons or particular persons for political purposes are in any circumstance unjustifiable, whatever the considerations of a political, philosophical, ideological, racial, ethnic, religious or any other nature that may be invoked to justify them.
Luigi certainly didn’t bring the public into a state of terror, if anything quite the opposite - so I suppose the real question is do we class Health Insurance Executives politically as a group of people to incite terror onto?
I’d argue that a group of people who would happily sign away someone’s life if it meant them getting richer don’t deserve that kind of recognition, but I’d bet the courts will say yes because their rich friends want an example made of him.
It’s the tried and tested Elon Musk method of performance evaluation. Fire all the workers, then be shocked when they don’t want their old job back for a lower wage and worse contract terms
Well done to DOGE for absolutely tearing up the place scrounging up the US Government’s metaphorical pennies, whilst ignoring actual budget inefficiencies, such as the infamously overzealous military budget
I’ve been using protonmail basically since its inception for money-related stuff (due to it being secure), and the one time I’ve had a fraud flag appear while using it was due to being on a VPN at the same time.
… But I’ve had that also happen when I used to daily drive Gmail, so I can’t imagine the Proton part made the difference.
Obviously anecdotes aren’t very good evidence, and maybe in your experience it was your email - but if that is the case, I’d be weary of any provider that automatically flags non-“big tech” addresses as fraudulent. That likely means they’re rather lazy about their cybersecurity.
Well the simple answer is that doing that is the easiest way to divide the masses and turn them against one another, thus allowing the rich to maintain control and do what they want
Unless Anon is willing to put in some serious work, like properly going back to school or busting their ass learning (and getting good at) a trade, then their life is kinda fucked.
You can’t just crawl out of almost 20 years of NEETing into really any kind of job, especially without the charisma to at least try masking it.
Also fuck knows why Anon’s parents just let them drop out of school and basically cease to exist outside of playing videogames for best part of two decades. That’s plain bad parenting.
Yeah, I feel bad for Anon getting shouted down for trying to be helpful, but sometimes you’ve got to stay out of the way
For fuck’s sake, it’s not meant to make money, it’s a public service - it’s literally in the name!
I wish more countries governments would get their head out of their capitalistic arses and understand that the services they run aren’t meant to be profitable - that’s what taxes are meant to be for!
Mirror molecules that by themselves could easily pose a risk to anyone exposed by them.
My point in even mentioning Thalidomide was that we already know what mirroring even a simple compound can do to living things, nevermind complex proteins and entire organisms.
GMOs can be dangerous as is without proper safeguards, but at least in most instances it’s only the living organism itself that’s dangerous. With mirroring, any part of that organism could be dangerous to normal lifeforms, so even sterilised mirror waste could be dangerous
I know they’re not directly related, but my point, as I said to @[email protected], is that we already know even simple mirroring molecules can do to living things, nevermind complex proteins and entire organisms.
lf there’s no proper safeguards, it could do unimaginable damage (which is also why I used Thalidomide as an example, as it inspired literally tonnes of safeguards post-scandel).
Like GMOs can be dangerous as is, but at least in most instances it’s only the living organism itself that’s dangerous. With mirroring, any part of that organism could be dangerous to normal lifeforms, so even sterilised mirror waste could be dangerous
Man, you ain’t gotta be rude.
I meant the article I linked to the Thalidomide scandal. I was surprised that chirality wasn’t mentioned even once in the wiki article about it causing birth defects, considering it’s chirality was a key factor in that scandal.
I know it wouldn’t be in the OP article because they’re only minorly related instances, but my point was tjat we already know what mirroring even a simple compound can do to living things, nevermind complex proteins and entire organisms.
And IMO, using arguably the single most widely known instance of mirror chemicals gone wrong to make that point is perfectly valid.
Yes, but like any tool, if there’s no safeguards, it will could do unimaginable damage (which is also why I used Thalidomide as an example, as it inspired literally tonnes of safeguards post-scandel). Like GMOs can be dangerous as is, but at least in most instances it’s only the living organism itself that’s dangerous. Fair. I had thought that article with the scandel would mention it, but apparently doesn’t. Only the main article does.
It has two possible configurations:
The Right handed configuration had the desired effects and isn’t harmful.
The Left handed mirror caused birth defects.
Oh and the best part is, if you try to make a pure mixture of the right handed version, it can convert to the left handed one in the body!
Exactly this!
For the most part Pathogens and even GMOs are only present an environmental threat in their living form, and once properly sterilised, can be disposed of safely.
These mirror organisms would be dangerous in living and dead form, as they’d be chuck full of mirror proteins and biological molescules, any of which could trigger an environmental disaster if released by accident, so they’d have to be completely destroyed to be safe.
Without proper regulations to ensure proper safeguards are in place, continued research into these organisms is plain dangerous
Oh for fuck’s sake, we already know that mirror molecules can have disastrously unexpected side-effects on people, so why on Earth would we make an entire mirror organism that’s has the potential to do the same but way, way worse!
I hate to tell you OP, but there’s just about 0% chance that’s gonna happen. Rich people want someone to make an example out of, and the government is all too keen to do it
It’s such a garbage argument when you can just counter with “okay then, release software which allows the public to run them for themselves”.
There are plenty of famous games, including Minecraft (only the most famous game in history) that manage to do that just fine. Acting like it’s impossible just so that you can force people to buy the next game is bullshit.
It’s a weakness in the sense that there are times this place turns into a straight-up echo chamber…
But when there is actual debate going on, it tends to be a lot more civil than on other sites (most of the time)
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if you have any doubts that Trump is in bed with Russia, wait until his peace deal comes out - I guarantee you it’ll be the almost exact same abhorrent “give me your all your land or else” peace deal Russia already offered to Ukraine. Ukraine will (again) vehemently refuse, because what moral country would abandon its land and people to Russia, and Trump will use that refusal to pull funding from Ukraine “because they don’t want peace” or “they refuse to negotiate”
Exactly. If anyone thinks Russia will stop at Ukraine, they’re a fool
