So maybe it would be better to post the question into an AI chatbot. You can just ask whatever question, and get some plausible but possibly-bullshit answer; then feel good for satisfying your curiosity.
Coincidentally, I just read a mastodon post where someone did a basic experiment to see what kind of content TikTok is pushing.
I was curious what a TikTok user might see if they made a fresh account. I provided no preferred content categories, and did not interact with any video in any way except the skip them.
In my first fifteen minutes, I received:

For sure. I’ve been looking for a solid OneNote replacement for a few years now. Inking is the only major barrier.
I really like OneNote, and I’ve been using it for more than 10 years. But in recent years, my dislike for Microsoft has grown to the point where I feel I need to stop using all their products.
Right now I’m using xournal++ a lot. It has really excellent drawing functionality; but zero organisational functions. (I’m organising my xournal notes using just file names and folder structure.)
What I really want is integrated xournal support with Obsidian, or Joplin. In Joplin, I’ve tried inserting a pdf into my notes, and telling Joplin to open the pdf by launching xournal++. That sort of works; but the viewing of the pdf in Joplin shows a window-within-a-window; and the creating of new notes is fiddly; so I decided it wasn’t quite good enough.
I haven’t run into the problem of people not being able to use a mouse - but I’ve found that very few young people are able to tell if something is saved on their own computer or being accessed over the internet. Saving or downloading files is not something they are familiar with. (Which I suppose is because a lot of modern software makes cloud stuff so silky smooth that people don’t notice it.)
It seems to me that Bernie is doing his best to create and energize a movement of working-class people in support of a better world. It isn’t trying to hijack an existing movement; because no cohesive movement currently exists. The lack of cohesion is exactly what Bernie is trying to address.
One must be careful with this kind of reasoning, because often the time is not a cost - but actually a valuable part of the experience in its own right. Walking to the corner store is slower than driving - but can be a worthwhile experience for its own sake - as it give a bit of time for quiet reflection, and light exercise, and fresh air. Depending on your tastes, a similar thing could be said about doing some maintenance work on your bike vs paying someone to do it for you.
Getting too bogged down in time vs money can potentially lead to miscalculations and stress. Is it better to give someone a quick blowjob for a bit of extra cash so that you can pay someone to vacuum your house? Perhaps the calculation is not really one-dimensional.
For me, simply spending less time thinking about money is worth quite a bit of ‘wasted’ money & time; because I value the headspace that would otherwise be consumed by that!
For what it’s worth, I was using linux for a full 2 years before I worked out whether or not I had wayland. – Because it just doesn’t matter for normal everyday use. And I’ve never even heard of ‘gamescope’.
The technobabble that you’re concerned about is only relevant to people who are interested in looking into the details of how things work. Its a bit like talking about the Windows registry, or the many settings you can change with ‘group policy’, or NTFS, or comparing versions directX. For most people, that stuff just doesn’t matter - even if it is a core part of how the system works.
I don’t know how many users reddit has, but it is a lot more than lemmy. Lemmy is quite small in terms of number of users.
But I think focusing on relative numbers of users is a mistake. Forty thousand people is still a lot of people. And we can see that it is enough people to create a vibrant community with a steady stream of good content and conversations. So the fact that it is small compared to other social media is not really relevant, in my opinion. Having a thousand times more users doesn’t make things a thousand times better - that’s for sure.
(That said, I do think its worth noting if the number of users is going up or down… because if there was a significant downward trend, that would be a bad sign.)

I also did dual boot for ‘da gamez’… but then found that I’ve never had to boot into Windows for any game whatsoever. It’s been a few years now. So apparently I didn’t need dual boot after all.
That does sound bad. If that was my experience, I guess I might actively try to avoid them too. But as it happens, I just rarely see any hexbear stuff anyway. So the fueling of cross-instance conflicts feels unnecessary and a bit icky to me.
From what I can tell, this tankie stuff is bullshit. In the years I’ve been here, I’ve seen close to zero ‘tankie’ content from any of these supposedly tankie instances. There’s like maybe one or two people on those instances who might fit the description if you search for them. Meanwhile, literally every day there are posts spitting on these supposed tankie instances. (And actually, it’s again a very small number of people complaining - but they put their crap into cute memes to get traction).
I don’t like the idea of shouting slurs at entire instances. In my view, if you hate those instances so much - just block them. Problem solved. No need to spew hate all over lemmy.

I think a lot of people get sucked into the idea that more is better. But that isn’t necessarily the case. I don’t think any of us really want to talk to a million different people anyway. We just want to talk to a suitable subset.
Deleting data from them might not be feasible, but there are other tactics.

I’m still using Windows 10 on my personal work laptop, and I’ve got to say that what you’ve described sounds pretty appealing. Windows 10 with most of the crapware removed, and extended support. That sounds like a good deal…
But on the flip side, I think it’s a bad idea to get an OS from a piracy site. Maybe it’s all genuine and tickety-boo, but being a reputable 3rd party source is a fairly high bar. I certainly wouldn’t trust a site I’ve never heard of to give me a legitimate copy of a better-than-standard version of Windows. Their offer to verify their own files is less than convincing. I think I’d need to be an active part of the scene to be able to trust something like that - because it certainly smells like an easy way to get back-doored.
I use to think about this a lot, and would constantly try to fix it - trying to look like I wasn’t just playing with my dick while doing it.
But now that I’m older I realise most people know clothes do this, and that it doesn’t really look like a boner anyway. And people generally aren’t looking at me wondering if I’ve got a boner, and they probably don’t care if I do unless I’m also staring at them or something. … So now I just worry about accidentally staring at people. (And my eyesight isn’t great, so it isn’t always easy to tell.)
