On Android, Organic Maps or OsmAnd are pretty good if traffic data is not needed, Magic Earth has “traffic” but it’s not accurate and pales compared to gmaps. What else is there? sygic? tom tom? I tried them all a few years ago, they all had some big deal breaker. Maybe I should look at them again.
The article says that for the rest of the world it still shows “Gulf of Mexico” … I’m in the USA so I can’t check. Are you saying that you are not in the USA and it shows both names?
I’m all for dropping Google if you can, but this is not Google’s fault, it’s Trump’s. Google is simply abiding by its policies of showing names chosen by a given country. If you’re in Mexico, my understanding is that it still shows Gulf of Mexico.
Ah, and as far as dropping Google maps… seriously, I can’t find a valid alternative with real time traffic data as good as Google, free or paid, what do you suggest?

I had the same exact experience in the US. multiple times. You go to the ER, for whatever reason, they look at you and, unless you’re literally bleeding to death you’re gonna be told to wait many many hours.
So, I guess Canada is the same on this, but at least they won’t send you a huge bill to pay.

This is sad. I know personally many people that worked there and they’re some of the best engineers. Never cared for an AI robot for kids myself, but it seemed to work well…

Yes! I use Kiwi daily, as well as Firefox. Some things work better in one, some the other. It’s a shame it seems to be abandoned (no updates since April).
Exactly this: highly paid engineers are usually PHDs or otherwise researchers focusing on difficult problems. Their output can’t be measures in lines of code commits on github. Nevermind time spent mentoring younger engineers, reviewing pull requests, advising management, etc. Ask me how I know.
That said … at my previous job for a while near the end they were paying me to do very little indeed. I was not happy. Eventually the company ran into trouble, laid a bunch of people off (including me) and now I’m a lot busier at my new job… also happier.
He definitely said that. He said a lot of other things too, often contradicting. He says and does whatever helps him stay (or get back) in power, his words cannot be trusted.
