  • The core argument here is should there be an expectation that donations should cover admins labor costs.

Personally, if an instance is run off of donations, then it’s a nice to have. As an admin, you shouldn’t have that expectation. If you no longer want to volunteer your time, then don’t. Shut the instance down, find someone to help you maintain the instance, or pass the instance off to someone else.

I’m also okay with paid instances and admins trying to make a reasonable salary or even making additional profit as long as it’s transparent to the users. It’s their choice to charge, it’s our choice to pay.

Overall, instances should be run by a group of volunteers, not a single individual. Otherwise, the long term viability of the instance is questionable.

  • Show me the data.

Trump received less than 300k more votes in 2024 than in 2020. That is less than 1% increase. Adjusted for the voting population, he actually received less votes in 2024 than 2020.

Harris received about 10 MILLION less votes in 2024 than Biden in 2020, about a 13% decrease.

Sure, when you look at percentages, it seems like there was a swing, but that’s just not true. The data shows every year, Republicans vote for Republicans, but Democrats do not vote at all when they don’t fully support their leader (not even for a third party).

The exact same thing happened with Obama, but inverse. There were historically high increase in voter turnout because the constituents actually supported him.

Data shows that increase in voter turnout correlates with Blue wins. That’s not debatable.
