Yeah, it always seems that every time someone questions the wisdom or validity of this analogy seems not to understand it.

It’s either the misunderstanding that the constraints of the hypothetical are finite (a million vs. infinity).

Or the insistence that any sufficiently infinitesimal chance is “practically zero”, when literally any likelihood multiplied by infinity is going to guarantee an occurrence.

You can actually expand the infinite monkey theory to say that an infinite number of monkeys using typewriters for an infinite amount of time would write every single book ever written in any language the keyboard is capable of typing, as well as every possible book that could ever even theoretically exist, an infinite number of times, and still be correct.

Any infinite set of random (or even semi-random) characters will contain every possible set of characters that could ever exist, of any length. The works of Shakespeare are also encoded into Pi, we just haven’t calculated enough digits to discover one yet (and very likely never will).

He wasn’t a billionaire. I know it’s easy to just pretend that every CEO is Elon Musk, but in billions he was worth $0.04B. Elon Musk is on track to be worth 100,000x that.

Remember how the right kept panicking their base for easy political points until extremist thought divorced from reality took over their platform and became the new norm?

Well, it’s happening to the left now. With a second Trump term on the horizon, income inequality at an all time high, and the rich and powerful preparing for the most egregious political and economic power grab of all time, people are ready to accept anything that even remotely sounds like justice.

One murdered CEO changes nothing. Nothing will change. No other CEOs will be touched. But the Overton Window does now appear to include murdering people in cold blood over politics and economics on both sides of the aisle now, so honestly, get prepared for a nasty civil war in the next few years.

The public reaction to this murder is disturbing and a very bad omen of what’s to come, no matter how easy it is to hate this guy.

Jesus Christ, performing a legal ceremony isn’t “art”, it’s the legal duty of the public servants that swore to do the job. It sounds to me like you’re saying that public servants should be allowed to refuse to perform a courthouse marriage ceremony if they disagree with interracial marriages. If that is indeed what you are saying, then you are endorsing racial discrimination against citizens by the government. He’s the CEO of a publicly traded company. His salary is publicly available. It was $9.86M. His net worth was estimated at $40M.

I keep hearing a lot of pretty extreme exaggerations about this guy’s wealth, including that he was a billionaire. He was a 1%er for sure, but literally nowhere near the wealth of an oligarch. I guess being deliberately dishonest is helping people justify their full-throated endorsement of vigilantism and murder this week.

Wouldn’t exaggerating the problem just diminish the point being made? Unless this 16M figure actually references something concrete, it’s meaningless. Throwing around numbers that don’t mean anything isn’t a great strategy if you want your point taken seriously.
