agreed. i didn’t downvote the thread starter because this is how our media always writes about prison deaths, but that’s on purpose. they shape the way we talk about these things in order to shape how we think about it. i think the thread starter is legitimately trying to disseminate exactly what happened, but the hegemonic language of the elite has infiltrated how they discuss these things through no specific fault of their own. i left a reply to the thread starter that was meant to directly critique the institutions and systems that lead to this without calling the thread starter themself the problem.
I think the problem is the phrasing which seems to absolve the jail of responsibility.
