These comics are great if you are… Probably just a normal person who thinks that the act of creating anything deserves praise.

But if you start comparing it to the best comics… it’s just some lady who uses it as a blog.

Yep, I think the comic was called talk. Here’s another unedited pizzacake slide that shows how women act towards men who’ve done nothing wrong. This one is extra credit because, to her audience, the guy in this is the villain:

Crazy how many folks can’t scroll past something they aren’t interested in. And not thoughtful critiques. Just whining really. Their delicate eyes witnessed it, thus they were compelled to come make a comment.

I don’t think I’d ever find it appropriate to whine in the comments of a user’s post, over a post breaking no rules. I have, and would… just scroll by.

I don’t see “No Pizza Cake” in the rules… why would someone think it would just never show up?

i mean, the best punishment for bad art is lack of engagement.

I don’t think pizzacake is a troll (as in makes bad comics so it gets negative engagement), but here we are.

People complaining about her in the comments actually helps her.

if you don’t like it, just move along, don’t give hold her in your head like that zen story about crossing the river with a girl.

I’ll be honest, I kinda wanted lemmy to not have the same mentality as the audience of r/comics who just straight up hate all men. But it looks like these comments are kind of a warzone. I wonder if the mods from that sub have any power here? They defend her from even polite and constructive criticism.

From the comments, it seems the artist herself isn’t well liked.

From knowing nothing about the artist, but having seen a huge bulk of these comics: Maybe they’re incels. 🤷🏻‍♂️ These do tend to be about toxic masculinity and just bad male behavior in general. It’s like seeing a Republican hating someone because that someone they hate calls out Republican bullshit. Considering the vagueness of the hate expressed in the thread, I am leaning toward this being the actual case.

For real. Their ideaology is so twisted. They think that in order to attract women, they should be a what a man’s idea of an attractive man is. And instead, being what a woman would find attractive is somehow… gay? Like, I just don’t get it, like there’s a very fundamental misunderstanding of what it is they are trying to do. Very square peg in a round hole situation.

It’s such a stupid satire by a sad person who can’t address valid criticism and who feel that their only recourse is to make up a fantasy.

Staw man/Fantasy: Guy telling a random woman on the street, who happens to be married, “I wouldn’t even date you”. The strong and independent woman answers with sarcasm.

Reality: The woman is a single mother with 10+ past partners who has failed to secure a good father for her child. She puts herself online and gets scrutinized and criticized.

This is not a defense of particular internet personalities, who may or may not deserve criticism on their own. Rather, it’s to point out that these comics are stupid, and don’t address valid criticism that’s out there that need to be addressed properly.

Staw man/Fantasy: Guy telling a random woman on the street, who happens to be married, “I wouldn’t even date you”. The strong and independent woman answers with sarcasm.

This is one of the most prominent parts of manosphere ideology, and they are not quiet about it or shy about sharing it. We used to call it “negging”. This comic is pointing out the absurdity of toxic men thinking they are too good for most women.

Reality: The woman is a single mother with 10+ past partners who has failed to secure a good father for her child.

I have no idea what the reality is for this cartoonist, nor do I care, but you’ve managed to make three misogynistic value judgments in one short sentence, which is kind of impressive in a sad and pathetic way. First, there’s nothing inherently wrong with being a single mother. Second, a woman’s worth is not determined by the number of past partners she’s had, a standard which is never applied to men. Third, securing a good father for her child is not the be-all-end-all goal of a single mother. Raising her child(ren) is. This can be done with or without a man involved.

This is not a defense of particular internet personalities, who may or may not deserve criticism on their own.

Maybe not, but it sure comes off as an endorsement of their values.

Rather, it’s to point out that these comics are stupid, and don’t address valid criticism that’s out there that need to be addressed properly.

So a comic strip didn’t address sexism in the specific way that you approve of, and you think the proper response is to degrade the cartoonist as a whorish single mother who can’t find a good man?

Dude. You are the guy in the comic.

First, there’s nothing inherently wrong with being a single mother.

Single motherhood is not easy, and I have sympathy for any woman who has become a single mother with no power of her own. The critique is not aimed at single motherhood, but rather at women who make (selfish) decisions in life that leaves the children without a father. It cannot be understated how damaging that can be for her children.

One reason why I said that certain internet personalities deserve criticism on their own is that they advocate for men engaging in promiscuity and cause the same problems that these personalities claim they dislike.

Second, a woman’s worth is not determined by the number of past partners she’s had, a standard which is never applied to men.

Yes, it’s a factor that men will judge a woman by. It makes sense, because a more extensive past will more likely affect a future relationship.

Men should be held to a higher standard as well, I don’t disagree with that.

Third, securing a good father for her child is not the be-all-end-all goal of a single mother. Raising her child(ren) is. This can be done with or without a man involved.

It has been shown that children who are raised with a single parent fare worse than with both parents. It’s clear that single motherhood is not something to be desired, neither for the children nor the mothers themselves. Many single mothers are complaining, on the internet about this, so it’s strange that you are trying to defend them by claiming that there is no issue to complain about…

So a comic strip didn’t address sexism in the specific way that you approve of, and you think the proper response is to degrade the cartoonist as a whorish single mother who can’t find a good man?

I wasn’t talking about the cartoonist. I was talking about the made up characters that supposedly reflect reality. When someone sees this comic, it’s most likely that they don’t think about who drew it. They will likely see the comic in isolation from the artist, just like I did.

Thanks, saved me having to write that. There is a lot of valid criticism women can level against “the modern man”, depending on the culture they live in. But this is not it. I have never heard of a guy claiming to be of higher status and cussing off a woman who rejected him. Maybe we sometimes think we’re higher status than a woman or whatever, but then again we do that with other men too. It’s a human thing, not a gender thing. Women most definitely categorize men into lower and higher strata subconsciously too, if nothing else.

OR, she is married, but probably her relationship has some elements that are still considered “niche” or “deviant” by society at large. I’ll ask my work colleagues in the union club. I’m sure perhaps my colleagues from Arabic countries might relate, but that’s about it.

Really? So people randomly approach you on the street and proclaim they’ll never date you?

          YES. Literally yes.

I’ve been approached by men who say I’m wearing too much makeup and that men don’t like that. That I should smile more if I want a boyfriend. That my clothes aren’t very flattering and it’s unattractive to him.

Like, for all your talk of “go outside” you don’t seem to know what life is like for women outside.

Not excusing ignorance but it is wild how different the experience of the average man or woman can be just existing in public. It makes sense to me that a man who is largely a basement dweller would have no first hand exposure to that sort of behavior.

Hearing a girlfriend express a lack of confidence because she wouldn’t get accosted kind of fucked me up. A moment of realization that the way the world is is so drastically different from the way I want to believe it is, I didn’t know where to start.

I try to build a habit of reacting to feeling upset with behavior by thinking up a situation that could lead me to act in the same way, but I really struggle to imagine what would make someone inclined to approach a stranger on the street with this kind of comment.

Mine? America. I even live in a very blue “progressive” area. But I have friends in the UK that have similar experinces. Frankly, why would that even matter? This sort of thing happens all over.

America. Typical. I would like you to come to Scandinavia, then. You might get a culture shock.

I mean. Okay? Maybe? But that’s not really the point?

I’m just trying to address how unrealistic you thought this comic was. But it is a accurate depiction of a regular experince for many women’s lives.

Honestly it seems like you’re just trying to “win” the discussion by correcting others. When women talk about the problems they face, it’s not helpful for you to go “That doesn’t happen”.

I am not a women but if you go outside with them you will see it.
Any time a woman stands up for anything that a shitty man disagrees with they say the same shit. Every time.
